Indoor Container Gardening with kids

Winter Gardening Activities

Creating succulent gardens with kids can be a fun and educational winter activity that can bring a touch of greenery indoors during the colder months. This was our Christmas Party Activity this year!  The kids loved it!

To throw a successful Christmas succulent party, you can start by setting up a DIY succulent planting station with various succulent plants, pots, soil, and decorative elements like ribbons, rocks, stickers, and miniature figurines. Encourage your students to get creative and design their own personalized succulent arrangements to take home

Succulents are easy to care for and come in a variety of shapes and sizes, making them perfect for little hands to work with. To start, gather small containers, potting soil, and a selection of succulents from your local nursery or garden center.

Begin by filling the containers with potting soil, leaving some space at the top for the succulents. Let the kids take the lead in choosing which succulents to plant and arranging them in the containers. Encourage them to get creative with different combinations of colors and textures. Once the succulents are planted, show the kids how to water them sparingly, as succulents do not require a lot of water to thrive.

Not only does this activity provide a hands-on gardening experience for kids, but it also teaches them about plant care and responsibility. They can proudly display their succulent gardens in their rooms or around the house, adding a bit of natural beauty to the winter season. This project is a wonderful way to engage children in nature and spark their creativity while staying cozy indoors.
